Those of you who attend Shabbat services on Saturday mornings have heard the patter of little feet. That is the sound of Shabbat Shalom School, B’nai Emunah’s innovative Shabbat school. Under the direction of Jennie Dahl, the school meets three Saturdays and one Sunday per month, and is enjoying the enrollment of several new students.

Teachers Jennie (pre-K through 2nd grade) and Anna Bleviss Whitlatch (grades 3-7), and teaching assistants Bryan, Andrew and Alex, are keeping the kids busy with hands-on authentic religious education. The children participate in activities in the classroom and then join the services to return the Torah to the ark and dance on the bimah for L’Dor V’Dor.

In addition, B’nai Emunah is boasting a booming Confirmation class (nine students!), which met to bake challah with Rabbi Mark at Sharon Bleviss’ house. (story continues below)

The group, which will be taught by Sharon, generated ideas for the year  -- including taking ownership of parts of the Youth Services for the High Holy Days -- in addition to crafting lovely challahs.
