San Francisco plays host in August to the 2009 JCC Maccabi GamesĀ®, the largest Jewish teen event in the world. From Aug. 2 to Aug. 7, the Games will feature 1,200 visiting athletes ages 13 to 16 from throughout the United States, as well as from Mexico, Great Britain and Israel (see www.jccmaccabisf.org). You can help showcase the Bay Area and provide a home away from home for the week of August 2-7.
Hosting visiting athletes is a wonderful way to feel the excitement of Games week and make a lasting contribution to the experience of visiting teens. Families do not need to have a child in order to host. Hosts are asked to house at least two visiting athletes (ages 13-16), and to supply breakfast daily, snacks, dinner on Sunday and Tuesday nights (host family night), make laundry available, drive the teens to the hub at USF every morning and pick them up at night, and must live within a 30-minute drive of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (3200 California St at Presidio Ave). Prospective hosts may register on-line at www.jccmacreg.org. For more information, please contact Katie Wallenberg at 415-292-1270 or kwallenberg@jccsf.org.
