Friday, July 31 marked the final day of work at Congregation B'nai Emunah for Alberta Mischke, our esteemed administrator for the past 2-1/2 years. Alberta will step out of the busy office and into a more temperate life/work balance, including volunteering at the San Francisco Lighthouse for the Blind. The monthly potluck on the 31st included a special farewell to Alberta, with a champagne toast and gifts. We will miss her infinite passion for the job, her smiling face and her pleasant voice on the phone. We wish her well on her next adventure and hope to see her regularly in shul!
On Monday, Aug. 3, we welcomed Sarah Klem, who takes over the reigns as administrator. Sarah is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and lives in the Inner Sunset. She has extensive administrative experience with non-profits and is excited to join our community. Sarah is an accomplished singer and piano player, and teaches piano in the evenings. There is a lot to learn in our busy office, so stop by or call and say hello and answer any questions she might have. We are lucky to have Sarah in our office!
A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Sarah will have new office hours -- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The office will be closed on Wednesdays.
Thank you to our tireless seach committee: Jeff Dielle, Bonnie Gratch Lindauer, Flori Green, Frank Kurtz and Elizabeth Halperin (and to Sharon Bleviss, too! – Ed.), who all worked hard to secure our new administrator, Sarah. The committee sorted through nearly 80 resumes and completed a number of phone interviews and, finally, five in-person interviews. It was a time-consuming and intense process, but the result was worth it! Thanks to all!
As you’re already well aware, Rosh Hashanah approaches in mid-September, and there is much in store for us. Keep your eyes open for our mailing about the High Holy Days. This year again we will offer the Rosh Hashanah bags, greeting books and Yizkor books. The Rosh Hashanah bags are an opportunity to send sweet greetings to fellow congregants or family or friends. Make sure to sign up before the deadline! Rabbi Mark and Cantor Linda, along with the Ritual Committee, are planning a rich experience during the High Holy Days; tickets are available for your friends and family, so contact the office to reserve them.
Looking forward to seeing you during the High Holydays!
B'Shalom,
Sharon
