Who we are

Our mission

To pursue Jewish knowledge, identity and observance in an open, inclusive and welcoming environment where people gather from all walks of life as one loving and supportive community.

Our vision

To be the most diverse, dynamic and open traditional, egalitarian synagogue in San Francisco, bringing together a broad spectrum of people (younger and older, families and singles, gay and straight, all ethnic backgrounds, Jews-by-choice, interfaith families, and those rediscovering their faith) into one loving Jewish community.

Judaism, San Francisco-style

We provide a supportive place for those seeking to live Jewishly in a welcoming environment. Our love of Jewish tradition and rituals and our welcoming culture make us special.

Membership spans the full range of age, race, ethnicity, backgrounds, and lifestyles, making us approachable and easy to be with.

A place to daven, to learn, to be yourself

Come share the unique balance of tradition and openness that characterizes religious services at B'nai Emunah.

We represent what a living Jewish community is meant to be, where members discover fellowship and shared values in the pursuit of Jewish identity and knowledge.

We're not your parents' shul

Congregation B'nai Emunah is a liberal, egalitarian, inclusive synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Our community has greatly evolved over its 60-year history, when first founded by the "Shanghai Jews" who fled Nazi Germany. We've become a family of Jews from all walks of life, including Jews-by-choice, interfaith families, members of the gay and lesbian community, and recent immigrants from around the world.

Singles, married folks, kids through seniors -- we at Congregation B'nai Emunah are all truly one extended family.
